Unhappy Stuck shed

Over the weekend (Sat nite) my Leachie started to shed, I misted her down and continnued with my routine. Monday morning I checked on her and she still had the old skin, in fact looked exactly the same as Sat eve So I changed her to a more enclosed container and misted everything I could, I think she was able to remove all of the shed, but I'm not really sure.
Last nite I went over with some fine tweezers and carefully pulled these "boogers" of skin off

How do I know if I have removed all of the stuck shed??

Re: Stuck shed

Sometimes it may be difficult to tell if you've removed everything completely. Some of the fragments may be somewhat transparent but will slough off with time or the next shed.

I would be sure that no areas are constricted at all...like the toes, tail, etc. So long as those are okay, the rest will come off with time and regular cycles of dryness and mistings.

I would continue with the routine that you have been to continue loosening the skin and it should all come off. Be sure to have something rough in the enclosure for the gecko to rub against and remove any problem skin it may still have.

Re: Stuck shed

I was also having some shedding issues with a couple of my leachies--My cages weren't holding the humidity for long enough, so I switched them all to sterilite tubs, and they LOVE it! Tubs hold humidity perfectly (I ventilated them the same as Wally--screen covered 1.75" holes in the front only) A couple of my leachies even had some odd growth labial scales, and they've already straightened out considerably since they've been kept with proper moisture. (Thanks Steve!!!)

It really is best to let the gecko remove its own skin--you can never be sure that you got it all.

Re: Stuck shed

I've found that when the leachies are having shedding issues, I put them in the bathtub, turn on the shower and wash them down in some warm water, nowhere near hot, around the lukewarm temperature, maybe a tiny, TINY bit warmer. All of our leachies seem to love the freedom of roaming around the bathtub in warm water (they LOVE warmth). Just make sure you rinse your bathtub beforehand to make sure theres no residual soap anywhere.

I also find that this helps rehydrate the leachies--which I believe is an integral part of a successful shed. Once you're done in the tub, remove the leachie and hold them in a dish towel and gently remove the stuck skin. 10-15 minutes has pretty much resolved the shedding problems our animals have been experiencing.

Then sterilize the tub before humans use it again. I once read of a case with a nurse who let her iguana swim in her tub then she came down with a case of salmonella. This goes for any surface you share contact with a reptile or amphibian.

Not trying to insult you at all, but I think there are better ways to rehydrate your leachie than your tub.

Re: Stuck shed

Actually I like the bath idea, nothing better than a nice soothing bath, just be carefull if you use anykind of bubblebath cause some of the chemicals might be bad for the leachie. They also have different heads for the shower so you can put it on gentle for your leachies.
