Egg binding ?
While cleaning cages this morning I came across a dead two year old crested gecko. When I picked her up I could feel several hard lumps in her abdomen that should not have been there. I opened her up and found what looked like 5 or 6 deformed eggs held together by a stringy, fiberous material. The "eggs" were white lumpy and roundish. From 1/4" to an 1/8" in diameter. I checked the rest of my animals and found one more live one with the same problem. They're aprox 5-6 of these lumps from the lower abdomen to mid chest, the lower ones can be moved from side to side. The one in the upper chest feels like it's anchored to something. If anyone knows what this is and what if anything can be done to fix it and prevent it in the future please let me know. Thanks

Re: Egg binding ?
I agree, get a vet appointment. I am not sure there is much that can be done. The key os to prevent this in the future?? Were you planning on breeding these?? Have you already tried to breed them??

Re: Egg binding ?
Thanks for your replies, of corse I called my vet I just pulled what looks like a bloody pearl bracelet out of one of my animals. The way this problem expresses itself is pretty clear, some one must recognise it. Two days is a long time to wait for my vet. I'd feel better with some information. Yes the dead animal produced well this year. The living animal has never produced. They are both over 35 grams.
-Thanks |

I have personally only been dealing with Rhacs for the past 2 years, building my stock and then breeding the past year. In this time I have never seen or heard of what you are describing as being "egg bound" or any other problems with eggs besides the few infertiles. Was she showing any signs of digging or preparing to lay?? Did she act "sick" and was she eating ok? Like I said, not too much you can do about "egg binding" from what I have read. What are you feeding? Are they housed alone, just the 2 or more? Good luck with her. Maybe someone who has been in the hobby longer will have some advice. Have you done a forum search while you wait!!! |
