Feeding Crested Gecko MRP - what to expect?

Hi,
I have a few questions about feeding the MRP to Crested Geckos. Some of the questions you may find a bit odd, but please bear with me. I am a newbie (pre-newbie actually - don't have a gecko yet - still shopping) Crested Gecko owner and was trying to get a better idea of what things to expect from my gecko with regards to the MRP diet (which I am planning on feeding).
I have the Rhacodactylus book by de Vosjoli/Fast/Repashy and have looked at the caresheets of various breeders websites on the internet, but have not found the answers to these as of yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How much MRP will a juvie and adult typically consume in a 24 hour period?
How much do you recommend serving to a juvie and an adult?
What does "normal" fecal matter look like from a Crested being fed the MRP? (do you have any pictures? I know no one really wants to post pictures of gecko poop , but seeing as how I have never had a gecko before I have no idea of what normal vs. abnormal should look like )

Thanks in advance
Nell

Hi i own a Crested Gecko which you also should get. Get one from either Repashy or Anthony Caponetto though. Anthony has very good top of the line geckos he is selling. I have purchased one from him and it is great. But back to your questions i do not feed the MRP to my gecko yet. I will be buying the CGD soon though. Cresteds dont eat very much and you should feed it at night because they are nocturnal meaning they sleep during the day. You should also not put very much in because as anthony has said on his site there stomach is 1/4 the size of a pea. You should feed Baby-Juvies more than 4 times a week. And you should feed Adults 4 times or less a week. Babies and Juvies need to be fed more days because they are little and it is good to feed them more than adults for optimal growth. That is just my experience and info i have gotten from Anthony and my own knowings. Thanks and hope you enjoy.

Thanks for the info...

Thanks for the reply, it was very helpful.
I do look forward to seeing what Allen Repashy will be offering for sale here soon (as I am sure a lot of other people are too). I have decided on getting a Crested Gecko for sure and am just waiting for the right one to come along.
Thanks again
Nell

Wow, thanks for the info. I just got my crested last Thursday, Jun 8th and was wondering how much and how often to feed. How long does it take for them to get use to the new home and eat, and when can I handle him... you know all of that good stuff.

Re: Feeding Crested Gecko MRP - what to expect?

i just bought my 21st gecko not to long ago, it is only 10 weeks old and it was shipped to me. it took about three days for it to get acclaimated and start eating. how big is your gecko from petsmart, i got four from petco that are four inches long snout to vent, thats almost around 8 months old. i have young ones that are 2 inches long snout to vent and i can pick them up. they are a little flighty at times but settle down after a while. as for the mrp i put it into my cages and the next morning it was gone in every one of them, hope some of this helps

Re: Feeding Crested Gecko MRP - what to expect?

I feed my Rhacs daily, and almost all of them eat what is offered daily. As to amount, well, with the little ones sometime just a few drops will be more than enough for a hatchling ciliatus, while an adult leachie can eat up to four ounces in a sitting. Just make sure that you don't mix it too thick or thin or put too little down as it will dry out quickly and they won't be able to eat it.

Good luck with your new little one!

The length of time before they really settle in depends on a lot of things: the age of the gecko, how stressed he is, how comfortable he is in his new surroundings etc. Some geckos are just more jumpy and nervous than others. I have some youngsters dig right in eating the next night, and one notable sub-adult that had been fed the CGD her whole life who refused to eat anything but crickets for months(!) before someone suggested I dust the crix with CGD and she finally broke down! Often I resort to dipping a finger in the food and touching it to their mouths, where they generally lick it off. I've been coaxing my leachie, Ellie, to eat that way for over a month now and she won't eat unless I feed her, but her eventual mate, Sam, digs in on his own every time. Ellie is still so squirrely I am hoping the time I invest in her now will pay off in the end. I would start handling them right away but only for a minute or two at a time until you see they aren't panicking. Good luck and enjoy them when you get them and watch out! They're highly addictive!

first, Gecko poop looks like little drops of bird poop, kinda white and very tiny. My Gecko is around 6 months i put CGD in every other day. She never eats in front of me unless i hand feed her mushed banana for a treat of course. She's a closet eater and i gotta admit she doesn't eat very much. but she's getting bigger anyway.
