Lineatus Male Died, Looking for Some Advice
Hey all,
I've been struggling with my largest male lineatus for about a week now. Curled up tail but not dehydrated, body was otherwise in great shape. Three days ago I syringed him 1mL of rescue cal, two days ago force fed a WC snail, he dropped a milky poo during that, yesterday I made a dubia/rescue cal milkshake and he consumed about 1.5mL of that. As of 11am EST, 5/7/2012 he has dropped his tail and is dead. Advice I need is, I literally do not have enough money to run a necropsy this week. I overspent on a new mistking system, very stupid move. I will have the money next week but I've heard that bodies in the fridge only last 3 days or so. So what should I do to preserve him until I can pay for the necropsy possibly a week away?

Re: Lineatus Male Died, Looking for Some Advice
Put him in the refridgerator for the time being to prolong the decaying process until you all say different.

Re: Lineatus Male Died, Looking for Some Advice
Milky poo? Did it have a greenish tinge to it, and did it have an unusually strong smell?
Put him in a zippie in the fridge to keep him as fresh as possible. No freezing.

Re: Lineatus Male Died, Looking for Some Advice
Not really, there was some green in it but the whole thing was not green. I would guess the milky poo is either the rescue cal or its a high concentration of white blood cells which would indicate an infection. Also, he had a second milky poo last night about 8 hours after I syringed him the dubia/rescue cal milkshake, guess it just went right through him.

Re: Lineatus Male Died, Looking for Some Advice
I'd save the poo too, and get a fecal done. Same thing, zippie and fridge.
Coccidia makes for wierd poops like I was asking about. Uroplatus can live for a long time with it and then all of a sudden it can take them down. They never really get rid of it.

Re: Lineatus Male Died, Looking for Some Advice
This case btw is exactly all the same symptoms that Salzy had with his male honschel. You can find that thread below under the similar thread section.
And yeah the milky white poo is like your female fimbriatus.

Re: Lineatus Male Died, Looking for Some Advice
Coccidia is very easily because it's so small, and breaks down quickly. It would need to be in the fridge for me to feel comfortable about them finding it. Was he housed with another animal? If so, I'd get a few fecals done on them over the next few weeks and if they have it I'd assume he did too.

Re: Lineatus Male Died, Looking for Some Advice
We purchased the two males about two years ago now. Housed them together until we found out that they were males but he has not been with anyone since a year or more.
Other then the poo sample i took that was out for a few days I dont have anything. The poo he did last night was more like diarrhea and it is already gone in the cage, basically came out exactly the same as it went in. Cant they get a fecal sample out of his intestines if there is anything in there during the necropsy?

Re: Lineatus Male Died, Looking for Some Advice
I don't know about the fecal from the intestines, maybe if it was freshly dead but I don't know about so long after death.
I'd test the other one. they can go a long while without showing symptoms, and then something triggers it and they drop.
