Gargoyle Not Eating
Roxy my beautiful gargoyle has stopped eating!! She hasn't eaten any of her Repashy for about a week now :-( the reason I am worried is that usually she has a really good appetite and clears her bowl!
She shed about 7 days ago so I would have thought she'd be real hungry now, nothing in her environment has changed and she seems healthy if anything she is more active than usual as I hear her rummaging around a lot more through the night. Any Ideas why she may have lost her appetite?

Re: Gargoyle Not Eating
How old is she? Is it possible she could be gravid? Sometimes they stop eating around the time they are about to lay eggs.
I have geckos that go off of food for a day/week or so. I just keep an eye on them, and as long as I see no other signs of distress, like dehydration or an injury, I just wait it out. Eventually they go back to eating. I'd check her for an injury, and make sure she is staying hydrated, and just wait it out. If she drops eggs, that would be the number one cause. |

Re: Gargoyle Not Eating
My gargoyle stopped eating for a week and a half and completely stressed me out. She also had formed a calcium bubble under her arm. I assumed that she was just overloaded and didn't need the nourishment. When the bubble disappeared, she resumed her usual pigging out!

Re: Gargoyle Not Eating
She hasn't been near a male in over a year maybe even longer! but I do realise they can still lay eggs, what should I provide for her in case she needs to lay. She's around 2 years old, that's what i was told anyway.
Also how would I tell if she is de-hydrated?? |

Re: Gargoyle Not Eating
Symptom of dehydrated include sunken eyes and lethargic. If have been sticking to your regular misting routine & haven't had the heat on then she probably isn't dehydrated.
Do you have her near an air vent where she might be getting a cool breeze, that will sometime slow down their eating quite a bit. If she might be gravid and close to laying, then she would need a laybox with moist substrate or moss to dig in. None of my girls will use a laybox so I make sure they have a 5"x7-8" corner of their enclosure with 3" deep substrate/moss mix for them to dig/lay in. |

Re: Gargoyle Not Eating
I use Eco Earth as a substrate anyway so she has plenty of places to dig if she is wanting to lay any eggs, The weather here at the moment is really hot and I have had the window open so maybe she could have felt a draft from that but I can't be sure as her viv is not directly in front of the window.
I'm going to clean her viv out tonight so I will look for any eggs, I took her weight the other day also she is 58g so I will continue to monitor that. |

Re: Gargoyle Not Eating
At 58 grams, she could very well be close to laying eggs. Keep us updated on how she is doing.
