Crested Gecko Diet for a Leachie? Or Vice Versa???
greetings all,
I know that it would obviously be ideal to give Leachie diet to a leachie, but am I going to harm a leachie by feeding it CGD? I'm sure that these species have subtly different diets in the wilds of New Caledonia, and I guess I'm just curious about what these animals eat in their natural environment. Also, I'm wondering about feeding organic fruit to my rhacodactylus. I have read that I shouldn't mix baby food with the CGD, but what about real fruit? I know that the important part is the nutritional content, and not the taste, but my goal is to try and give these animals an environment that is as close to their natural habitat as possible. This doesn't mean I'm willing to spend hundreds of dollers to have some exotic fruit shipped across the globe, I just want to get it as close as possible, and learn as much about these animals as I can. thanks, Blake |

hello
Hello Blake,
Your Leachie should do just fine on the crested gecko diet. The formula is different in the amount of protien, fat, and fiber. The biggest change in this diet is done more for the benefit of the keeper than the gecko. I have formulated in 50% more fiber into the leachie diet, and this really does a good job of firming up the stool. As anyone who keeps leachies will be first to admit.. They can be really messy to keep. Especially when feed lots of baby food (not recommended) Their waste is very watery, and they usually "paint the walls" if you know what I mean. The leachie diet promotes nice firm stools that will make your life a lot easier, and more naturally replicate the natural diet. (high fiber fig type fruit. The natural diet of most Rhacodactylus is really quite unsweet poor tasting, fig like fruit. You can add fresh fruit, baby food, or whatever to your diet as long as you do it in conservative amounts and it makes you feel better It is however, not necessary. Enjoy..... Allen |

Rock On....
thanks for the info.
Non-sweet figs...sounds like we're doing them a favor. I've tried the diet myself a few times...NOT BAD. I've never been that big on figs...but I think I might try a few on my ciliatus when the season starts...there's have a big tree down the street. Do you think your diet could sustain a human??? later, blake |
