Stuck shed question with a twist

My tiniest gecko has a ring of shed stuck on his right foreleg. I soaked him, but have no idea how to get that ring of shed loosened. It already looks to be restricting circulation (it's quite tight). Any suggestions for how to get it off?
When I say tiny, I mean that he is still the size of a newly hatched gecko (he eats, just doesn't grow very fast. the only reason I know he's growing at all is the ring of shed stuck on his little arm).
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Re: Stuck shed question with a twist

I would hold some wet paper towels over it for a couple minutes then try and roll it off with a q-tip. Or use a pair of very small, sharp tweezers and gently lift at the edge and try and coax it off. If neither of those attempts worked, I would snip the ring very carefully with some surgical scissors and then remove it. Obviously do not do this if you are not comfortable in your abilities.

Re: Stuck shed question with a twist

I tried the sauna and rolling it off - no luck. I have crappy tweezwers that I tried, also with no luck. I will try better tweezers today, but do not have scissors good enough (or skills I'm confident with) to try to snip it. I'm going to try the sauna again and rolling it again...
Thanks for the suggestion!!

Re: Stuck shed question with a twist

as Drew suggested, I've got a pair of sharp tweezers from a dissection kit that work quite well for this kind of thing....Definitely soak it again, and you might try using something like a pointed tooth pick or something. A q-tip isn't rigid enough to pull off more tightly stuck/rolled shed.
Good luck, and keep us posted.

Re: Stuck shed question with a twist

I had one do this and her leg swelled up like a mickey mouse hand. It took almost 3 sheds to get it to go back to normal. Just make sure the skin is wet and you can try tweezers, or I used a pin I rubbed the point off of on sandpaper. You just have to get them to stay still while you work it. Then if her leg is dented watch the next shed because it might happen again....

Re: Stuck shed question with a twist

Good to hear you got it off. I've seen this more frequently with leopards then cresteds.

Just a twist on the approach- I like to let the skin dry out then holding the gecko still, and using a new razor blade, I carefully and gently slice under the dry skin. This seems to be much quicker than working with moist skin.

Re: Stuck shed question with a twist

Not cutting the gecko, cutting the dry skin. It is much easier and quicker.
