Mines still the Fat Tail Gecko. Although I feel I'd really like the other African ones if I ever ran into them.

brian- i hate to take this off topic, i enjoy fat tails alot, they arent so heavily... inbred as leopard geckos, and they seem to be alot calmer. i have a question for you, do you work with them? ive tried looking up information online and im not having a whole lot of luck. I have a 8 month old albino male that i am waiting to breed, and im just not sure about the ideal weight, hes currently pushing about 28g on an empty stomach. thanks in advance

Bleeding Sarcasm, yeah I do work with them (if you count having one male and two adult females as working with them) although I have a terrible success rate. I get a ton of eggs from each female (12 each and the look nice) although my hatch rate was terrible. I had the problem I hear a lot about where a majority die halfway through incubation or later.

What I later found out is I may have been useing to wet an incubation medium. Also, it didn't help that my females drop eggs at the warmest part of the tank which tends to cook them relatively fast if I don't get to them. The babies I did get grow much faster and bigger then any article or source said they would. I bought a neurotic striped **** from EBV and it's about the same age minus a week or two, but much smaller. I did keep them at the warm end and fed two-three small meals spaced out a day.

My main concern is that if your male was to small and the female wasn't in a good mood. The male might get injured. One of my females is a super female I think and will bite the male back if she's in a bad mood.

Honestly, I don't go on weight. If the tail is nice and plump then I consider them fine. I also found giving them an all you can eat high quality diet with an occational waxworm thrown in can keep the females weight somewhat stable during breeding season.

I put mine through early hibernation this year, but not long enough. The males ready, but the females are not. I'll probably try again after the worst part of winter so I can just let things drop to room temperture. I actually got my animals overwieght since I didn't cut the all you can eat diet out quick enough and ended up with animals that looked gravid (even the male) which were just overweight (abdominal fat).

Is the male sexually mature?

I got my Fat tail around June or July. It's always been a bit high strung. I wanted a stripe.

BTW I have a suspicion that the adult temperments somewhat predict how docile the offspring will be.

I picked up my Uros from EBV recently since I have wanted one for quite a while and was having cb babies in front of my face that tipped the scale. I'm hoping the eventual adult size of the Egyptians stops me from getting a **** Mali as well.

I probably kept the babies on the warm side, but I'm pretty sure that the smaller more frequent meals may have been responsible for the larger size for their age. It hasn't sped up sexual development as far as I can tell. I can't prove it though.

My adults I didn't raise have eating issues. They don't seem to try new things. I didn't feed pinkies. I ended up with geckos so fat this summer that they all looked gravid and basically they got bored with food. I hand feed my adults and probably overdid it a bit. The real purpose of early hibernation was to drop some weight. I'll probably actually try to breed seriously again a month or so into next year when I try with my Cresteds.

I love both leos and AFTs but AFTs are defently more layed back then leos. But they are both awesome

It would be very hard to choose one, but probably the good 'ol leopard gecko! Then I'd have to pick a Coleonyx, probably C. elegans. I like fat-tails, their disposition seems calmer than leos although I have found they stress much more easily.
