just a reminder to all digital camera users

i got the message from my laptop today: hard drive is failing.

it's been a while since i last backed up my shots, so it's looking like im gonna lose a bit. it could be worse, the majority will be saved.

but let this be a reminder to all of you who value your photos, have a backup drive and use it!

Re: just a reminder to all digital camera users

Good reminder man. I'd also suggest picking up an external hard drive. Makes organizing your photos much easier, and it makes reformatting your computer a heck of a lot quicker and easier.
I would also suggest if you have a significant other, to not tell them the computer is messing up. It frequently requires much added effort to ensure they are satisfied with the saving process ( sometimes saving images in 3 places!)
lol....

Re: just a reminder to all digital camera users

My computer HDD is only 250 GB, my file backups, (including photos) go on DVDs, but my photo backups go on 2 external drives, each 750 GB.... shows what I value the most

Andrew, I don't have a significant other, I'm the one who saves the images in 3 places. I make one copy on each external, and one on DVD. That way I know I've got a copy if the drives fail, or if a DVD goes missing. Redundant or OCD? Maybe, but I'm not very persistent with laundry and ironing, so it all balances out in the end.
