Fluker's Bamboo Bars

These bars come in a 2 pack of one thicker and one thinner spring loaded bar with suction cups at each end. They were on sale at Drs. Foster and Smith awhile back, so I picked up a bunch for my ten gallons.

The suction cups on these bars are kind of shoved in the end with two metal clip parts to brace it. This setup does not "swivel" as much as they say.

It says they vary in length from 10" to 15" due to the spring inside. I thought this would be good to put across a 10 gallon tank along the short axis. It does fit, but the force from the spring bows the glass worryingly... I had to end up just setting one end on the ground and one end in a corner and completely forgo the suction cups.

I would give these bars a 5/5 for price. I think I paid something on the order of $2 a bar.

I give them a 2.5/5 for quality. They do make good surfaces for geckos to climb on, but they can't really be used if they are going to be shrunk to the 10" side of the spectrum, and they are very loose and wobbly to the 15" side of the spectrum. If you can't get the suction cups to stick, they spring away potentially hurting or scaring your gecko when they do. If you do have a good setup to shrink them to about 12", they work well. They also just feel kind of cheap.

Overall, if you can find them on sale, they are worth it. They won't mold like real bamboo pieces and are easy to clean. If you don't have a good setup to have it horizontally, you can always just lean them.

Re: Fluker's Bamboo Bars

I don't know what kind of substrate your using, or what kind of humidity your geckos require, but be careful if you end up going with the "leave one end on the ground" option. I had the same problem with the bamboo bars being flimsy and cheap, instead of throwing them out I decided to stand them up like you mentioned, within a few days the paint flaked and molded, forcing me to dump the substrate.

Thanks for the heads up! I might end up spraying on a layer of sealant now that you mentioned it.

So yeah! All in all these bamboo bars are crap!
