Introducing Littlefoot

Hey everyone, just thought I would share my first leachie with you guys. His name is little foot, I got him a month ago. http://youtu.be/R8uQgK6x96E

He gets insanely dark, I'll try to get some images of him when he is REALLY dark.

He is growing uncontrollably fast (like seriously, has anyone seen this fast of a growth rate at this age?). I don't know the exact hatch date, but he is 4-5months old. He is feeding on CGD and calcium dusted/gut loaded crickets. He LOVES crickets. Anyways, just a quick video.. more to come. ENJOY!

Re: Introducing Littlefoot

That's very impressive. My Moro has gained 100 grams in the eight months I've had her, with her largest gain in a month being about 15 grams.

What type is Littlefoot?

Re: Introducing Littlefoot

His local is unknown unfortunately, but I just had to get him once I saw him. I think he is going to be a looker when he's older (I suppose everyone says that about theirs though, haha). I'm trying to get some film developed right now to have some pretty decent shots of him, but I couldn't wait to show him off, and report these crazy growth rates.

Dave, at what weight did your Moro but on those 15grams, for its biggest weight gain in a month?

Re: Introducing Littlefoot

I made a little chart. She was born August 25, 2011, so she is almost a year old. I changed her cork hide in May because it had some mold on it. As you can see, she didn't care for the change. It looked almost identical to her old hide, but it must not have smelled right. I don't know...

Date---------------Weight------Gain
11/19/2011---------13.2
12/19/2011---------23.4--------10.2
1/22/2012----------31.1--------7.7
2/21/2012----------44.9--------13.8
3/19/2012----------61.7--------16.8
4/19/2012----------75.1--------13.4
5/19/2012----------79.4--------4.3
6/19/2012---------- 94.6-------15.2
7/21/2012----------106.7-------12.1
8/14/2012----------111.6-------4.9

Re: Introducing Littlefoot

Those are some nice steady growth rates. I love seeing this kind of stuff. Looks like she put on the most at 6-7 months old with 16.8 grams. At what age did you upgrade her enclosure, and from what size to what size? It doesn't seem like it had much impact on her growth rate.

Re: Introducing Littlefoot

I have kept her in a 18"x18"x24" Exo Terra with black foam board covering the sides and back and plexiglass covering the screen since the day I got her. I now know that large enclosures are generally advised against for small leachianus, but she seemed to be doing fine so I kept her in there.

Re: Introducing Littlefoot

I was wondering if you ever changed enclosures at all. Mine has also been in one home its whole life, a 10 gallon tank. Unfortunately this is no way going to last much longer, especially at this rate. So I will see if these rapid rates continue, even after a new environment.

Anyone else see slow of growth rates when upgrading enclosures? Or more rapid growth rates under similar, one cage its whole life, conditions?

Re: Introducing Littlefoot

Good luck with your animal!

I had a post written out here, but it's early in the morning and it looks like I combined information from both of you guys. I went ahead and deleted it due to my confusion.
