Off-Topic (non-herp related) A place for those with no real life (kidding) to talk about anything they want. Anything goes, but keep it PG-13.

soldier Posting on old threads

I was wondering as I have posted on some old threads (few years old) if it is frowned upon to do so or not.

The way I see it is, people have learned much more over the years about every in every category of every discussion board there is and if I (or others) post on old threads it will maybe bring others to post more info on a new topic that people may have not known about at the time & I think it is a good way to have something "new" to discuss even if the thread is years old.

Opinions on this...?

Re: Posting on old threads

It's fine to post on old threads, as long as you realize you are doing so. If you need to ask a question, you are more then likely not going to get it answered. A lot of people only spend a short time on forums, or only use them to answer their questions and they don't really stick around.

Also be aware that a lot of information is now out of date, especially regarding gecko husbandry and species classification.

Re: Posting on old threads

Ok, sounds good! I plan on sticking around for awhile because I enjoy learning about my geckos whether it pertains to my particular geckos or not. Thank you for the quick response!

Re: Posting on old threads

I kind of like it when old topics pop back up to the top.... Assuming, as Krystal mentioned, that the poster doing so realizes it's an older post. It's interesting to see how things have changed over the years and reading up on how things may have changed since the original post. Sometimes it even brings members back that haven't posted in awhile.
I know for sure that my opinions and techniques have changed a ton since I first joined the site.

Haha, I'm glad we are on the same page! Although I'm still new to this forum (joined 4 months ago) I too think it's interesting to see how things have changed. I used to be part of a forum for other animals (non-herp animals) and when old threads were posted on it did exactly what you said, as far as bringing old members back. It would be cool to get some original people back on this forum that haven't been too active lately.
