Enclosure Question

I will be getting my first leachie in the coming week and I had a question on enclosures. The final enclosure I intend to put her in will be an EXo-Terra 18x18x24 however she is only a couple months old right now.

I know that it is ill-advised to put a leachie in a too big enclosure and also that when changing enclosures they may go off feed.

I currently have 2 smaller Exo-Terras that I was debating to use to grow her out in. One is a 8x8x8 and the other is a 12x12x12. Instead of putting her in an 6qt shoebox which is mentioned a lot. would the 12-cube be a good choice for grow out or start her in the 8-chube and then move her to the 12-cube around mid-20 gram weight.

I don't have an exact gram weight on her yet.

Thank You.

Re: Enclosure Question

i personally would go with the 8x8x8 (or similar sized plastic container, but before you know it the leachie will be in the 12 cube....then into the bigger terrarium. The whole thing is that they grow sorta fast, and concidering the sizes you are stating, you might as well have a money tree. Also, a 18x18x24 will not be big enough for an adult (in the future) IMO. i will not tell you how to take care of your pets, but I would do an appropriately sized plastic container till about 25-30 grams (maybe a 20-30 Quart), and then when he/she is larger.....go for a minimum of 24x24x18 exoterra.

Re: Enclosure Question

The 12" cube should be fine for the baby/juvie until ~20-25g (if island type). Just be sure & have a good & tight cork half, &/or coconut hut for the little one to feel secure in. & definately cover the back & sides, & as much of the top as possible. I keep adult pairs (island type) in 18x18x24" ZooMeds & they do (& breed) great...
