Broken tail.... All healed up

Back in April of 2010 we hatched out a wicked little orange phantom pinstripe with an odd little issue. When I pulled it out of the incubation container, I noticed it had a partially autotomized tail. Initially I was just going to pull the tail off, but Sarah and I decided it would be interesting to see if it would heal, and how it would work out over time. Not sure if it was broken in the egg, or got caught on the way out or what?
Here's Julius on the day she hatched out....

I didn't take photos of the healing process, but within probably a week the tail was closed up, and within the first month it was nearly completely healed. Within 6 months you almost couldn't tell there was ever an issue.

Fast forward to now, and here's what you've got....

The gecko's tail initially was a bit limp, but after a few months of the muscles healing up and now it's fully functional.

Thought you guys might get a kick out of the healing process/progression.

Enjoy

Re: Broken tail.... All healed up

It goes to show you how hardy these little guys can really be and how in captivity we give them a better chance at a much better life, the gecko looks AWESOME.

That's pretty sweet man. Great photos and progression. You can barely tell there was an issue...just that little bit of a dark scar and that's it.

Re: Broken tail.... All healed up

I had a leopard gecko with a partial tail release during shipping, who also made a full recovery.

This baby turned out SO beautiful! Yellow AND blue eyes! GORGEOUS!

Your geckos are so crazy! All the ones that Id imagine would go dark, turn yellow?? Hhhmmmmm....I'm going to have to rethink future choices

Re: Broken tail.... All healed up

Fantastic! Even cooler that the spots came out in similar places too on the regenerated tail.
