Is 30g Safe to Assume...
that my garg is female? I have two around the same size, one has a FULLY developed "bulge", curious to know opinions on this. I've had Ciliatus that dropped bulges WAY late in the game (around 20g), so I don't feel like I can trust any of these little guys
What do you think?

Re: Is 30g Safe to Assume...
I never go based off the bulge...always on pores. They can drop the bulge anytime it seems like, but the pores are typically easily visible and distinguishable even by the time they are 10 grams. If you can't see 5 rows of distinct pores, then I would say it's female.
I haven't ever seen a gargoyle NOT show a bulge by the time they are 30 grams though either, so I'd be inclined to say it's female anyway (pending age...how old is this one?)

Re: Is 30g Safe to Assume...
Ok here's my issue.
I DO see five rows of pores. They differ VERY slightly from the ones on my male, but when I checked one of my older females (yes she's a girl, she has laid eggs), she has 5 rows of pores that look exactly like the ones on this "questionable" gecko. How freaking confusing is that?! I'm tempted to take pictures just to prove my point haha |

Re: Is 30g Safe to Assume...
Photos might help...might not though either.
Gargoyles can be a pain because they do show such a variety in pores and pseudopores. If you haven't seen a lot of them, it's hard to tell the difference. Andrew has a really good tutorial on here about sexing gargoyles though...have you taken a look at that?

Re: Is 30g Safe to Assume...
I have seen the tutorial, I guess I just have to get more familiar with identifying pseudo pores and ACTUAL pores. When I look at my males and compare the pores on the females, they're obviously different. I just have to get better at identifying that. Thanks for your help though =) Looking like this one's a girl.

Re: Is 30g Safe to Assume...
Gargs are fun that way, almost all of my female gargs have pseudopores. I bought my orange stripe female garg from steve camelli and he swore it was a male when he sold me. The experienced make mistakes but I have had my best luck looking for the secretions from the pores rather than the pores themselves. 30g is fairly safe to assume female but still too small to breed so no real point to worry until it hits 40g.

Re: Is 30g Safe to Assume...
Yeah I'm pretty positive now that I've noticed the differences in the pores that this one's a girl, it doesn't matter at this point but it's still good to know
