Reds?

Soo.. Can you tell if a baby crestie is red as a hatchling or can it sometimes turn more red as it ages? I thought my baby was a red, but not so sure anymore.. Its only about a month or 2 old so I was curious.. Sorry for the stupid question lol

Re: Reds?

When hatchlings grow up they can go through all kinds of colors. I had a baby that hatched dark red then about 2 months later it turned more yellow then a couple months later it turned back to red. I find it very interesting how they can change color as they grow up.

Re: Reds?

Cresties commonly hatch out a "baby red" color but it generally changes over time to be anything from olive, yellow, brown, red etc. It's not a good indication of what they will be as adults, unless you know what the parents or even grandparents look like. Even then it's not a guarantee.

Re: Reds?

Yea, most all of our geckos hatch out red, but most loose that color is a month or so. The red one's turn a very light tan, and finally "grow into" their red color in another 3-6 months. Your best bet is to find out what the parents and grandparents look like, as Spyral said.

Re: Reds?

check out my thread pics of squirt. He has always been on the lighter colored side with greyish tan on his belly and orange on his back but today i found him fired up dark red on the sides of his belly and cream on his head and back. He's three months old and this is the first time i've seen him red.
