Blue Crested Gecko!

Just tidying my office and found a copy of The Vivarium Vol 6 No. 6, on the front cover is a photo of a bright blue crested gecko by Frank Fast.

What happened to it? Has there been anymore? or was it an 'error in print colouring'?

Scott,
Printing error on that picture. It's been discussed quite a bit in the past. Funny how it knocks everyone's socks off when they see it... I don't find it very attractive myself. But I suppose if something like that popped out of an egg, I'd be as thrilled as the next guy just because of the uniqueness of it (and the potential income LOL).

allen may be able to shed some light on this... but there was also a photo in a reptiles magazine issue ( the one he wrote the article for) that had the same problems, and everyone thought there were blue ones from that. could be the same photo, but as i remember i don't think it was.

something has been discussed along the lines of when a crested is just about to shed and a photo is taken it appears to have a blueish tint to it, not neon blue like the first picture posted, but a slight blue tint that gave people the impression that blue cresteds existed, as far as i know the shedding theory has been the most common reason for the appearance.

That's an interesting photo. At first glance, I thought it was Photoshop'd. If I came upon a true blue crested it would be an awesome thing to witness. You never know, Mother nature has her way of surprising us.

That little bit of brown on the end of its nose makes me wonder....probably a print error though.

There are a few tell tale signs that the color in that photo is off. The color of the wood is too pale...should have more yellow/red in it. The "knotty" area just below the right rear leg looks nearly purple. There's also blue creeping in at the bottom of the eye and just behind the gecko's right front foot/leg.

Also, I believe Philippe and Frank have both said that the photo came out wrong when it was printed.
