Crested gecko breeders
I've been scouting around a few websites looking at different CG breeders. I've never ordered animals off the internet before, so I don't really know what to look for as far as what makes a good breeder. In general, can I trust a breeder that sells CGD and other crested-related products in addition to geckos? Are there any red flags that I should pay attention to on a breeder's website? I don't want to get ripped off.
Also, for those of you who have brindles, would you mind posting pics? Those are my favorite.

Something to check out also is the BOI (Board of Inquiry) on FaunaClassifieds.com. There is positive and negative points about breeders and sellers there that can really help people out. You can make your own thread there as well, asking for information about a particular person. Also, you can ask around here as well. Post a thread about someone you are interested in, and we can send you a personal message with any details we may have. A lot of us are fairly well-rounded in the reptile market and at least have heard of most folks and can point you in the right direction for information.

Re: Crested gecko breeders
I have only had one kinda bad experience on line and really it wasn't that bad. If the site you are talking about is pangea yes Matt is a reputable breeder. I look for head structure and markings I am shooting for when buying a crested along with the obvious no tail kinks or ribs showing. Ask the cresteds age so you know if the final coloration is showing and weight to be sure it is a normal weight. Other than that if you like what you see and the gecko looks healthy do a BOI check on fauna first and order away!! Shipping is not so scary if the person is experienced and any good breeder will hold off on shipping when they worry about the weather. Remember before they are your gecko they are our geckos and we want them alive and healthy upon arrival!

Re: Crested gecko breeders
Everybody's given you some pretty good information, but one thing that eased my mind about some of my online purchases was to ask for references. If they can provide some good references that can vouch for them, coupled with all of the other things that have been already said, you should be golden!

Re: Crested gecko breeders
i have bought and can vouch for quality on geckos from AC reptiles, Bushwhack Herps, Gorgeous Geckos. Also always look for care sheets on there websites and for their warranties on shipping. DOA warranties and Dead within a certain amount of days warranties are also good to look for.

Re: Crested gecko breeders
You could also probably ask around on this forum. I know that many of the people that post here have cresties for sale and experience shipping them. And you're likely to get a better price, too. I don't ever see anyone post WTB in the classifieds, but if you're looking for anything in particular, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea.
You may also find the casual breeder (like myself) that has a few hatchlings that they don't really know how to go about selling. You may even find what you're looking for in your area so that you can avoid shipping all-together. |
