Sexing crested geckos: HOW TO

Hi Andrew,

I'm very new to the crested gecko obsession and found your pictures very helpful. My question is this (if you ever read this again, that is): In many posts there is some controversy as to when these pores show up. I have seen some postings saying "I had a girl until this point and then boom! it was a boy."

Now I know that young gecko butts are very small but...given the right camera equipment and a big monitor (and a cooperative gecko), it seems to me that a good look could be had. So...in your experience...do the pores show up after a certain level of development or are they always there to be seen?

I haven't personally done any testing to see at which age/weight the pores become apparent. I dont' even loupe them, I just look with my eyes and see what I see usually. I'll try taking some 3:1 macro shots of some hatchlings or few day old geckos sometime when I get the chance, and see if I find anything really interesting.... but it will likely be awhile before I get around to doing this.
