Chahoua info.

Hey guys,
I'm getting some chahoua next month and I have a few questions.

1.) Breeding weight/age for P.I. locals. I have heard several different answers to this question and I am trying to figure this out for sure.

2.) How often do they eat? CGD? Insects? How often do they need to eat insects? I don't feed insects to my cresteds on a regular basis, just every week or two and CGD, they always have in their cage.

3.) I'd just like to see some set ups of your breeder cages, so if you could post em' that'd be great!

4.) Do you separate them in the cooler months for breeding?

I'll probably think of some more questions later but thats all for now!

Thanks for any help guys!
-Armen

Re: Chahoua info.

Hi,
here is my way:
1.)breeding age minimally 2 years of age, 2 and half is better

2.)I feed them every other day. Their taste is unstable. There are weeks during which they dont touch CDG/babyfood mix and love crickets or dubia roaches, later they like mix. But always love to hunt for live prey.

As mine dont like pure CGD (as young animals received babyfood), I mix it with various babyfood, like apple/banana or peaches etc.

3.)horizontal and vertical branches, live ficus, pot filled with humid sphagnum and cork tube, which is inserted into pot. They like to lay eggs into.

4.)no. Females take a rest even they are housed with males. But watch them well, sometimes females need to be separated during breeding season (when crashed after few clutches)

And one more thing - give them hotspot. Female chahoua needs that more than other Rhacos females.
That is my experience.
Good luck,
Ori

Re: Chahoua info.

normal feeding cycle is two times CGD/babyfood mix and once insects. Plus there is always in all my Rhacos and Eurydactylodes tanks dry premix for Loris and Hanging parakeets in small dishes. Some Rhacos, like leachies, like it more than chahouas, but they take it too.

And give them enough calcium.

He mixes it because his chewie was fed only baby food and he is trying to switch it over. Baby food is not "bad" for your geckos unless you only feed them babyfood with NO extra supplements. But CGD is much better.

Re: Chahoua info.

there were some topics about CGD versus babyfood in the past.

CGD was developed for Rhacos and works very well for many of you.
Baby food is more common in Europe, but always together with insects and mixed fruits.

I feed CGD/babyfood mix for few years and together with crickets and dubia roaches it works very well for my animals, so I am not going to switch diet to pure CGD.
I always prefer to offer various food items to my animals.

What a great point. I've never thought about this with my two groups but you are absolutely correct. Some weeks, they do not touch the CGD but will devour the crickets I feed. Then suddenly, no crickets and the CGD dish is dry as a bone.
