Gargoyle Bred to Crested?

Has this ever been done? I've done my fair share of research and I was curious if this has been done or not? I know cresteds and been bred to other rhacs, but I've never heard of anyone trying this with gargoyles. I was just curious if it was possible or not, considering some people house these animals together. It seems like something would have to happen, if they fight each other on occassion why would they not mate on occassion? Just curious what you guys thought?

From what I understand this has yet to happen although I'm sure it has been tried. I wonder why we haven't seen any crosses from these ,it seems that it would work out better than a crested and chahoua which has proven to be possible.

Just because they are closer to the same size doesn't mean a hybrid is more likely. Mating might be easier, but genetic compatability factors that I don't fully understand probably govern a hybrid being viable.

I think it would be a weird looking one if it did. I think it would be neat though to see if it took after the gargoyle in terms of maturing or crested since gargoyles take almost twice as long to mature. I think it would be interesting, but nothing I plan on doing. I don't like to mess with mother nature.

Brian,

Some of the factors I think you are referring to include timing of embryonic development, chromosome number and various other hormonal signals. These, coupled with possibly different behavioral cues from one species to the next are why hybrids usually don't occur (in conjunction with differing habitats), and are likely why we haven't seen a crested/ garg.

I discussed this with my Cresteds. They think gargoyles are ugly ..They come from the ''wrong side of the shrub ''.So there ya have it Cresteds are uppity lizards.

Actually, when I asked my gargoyles, they all cringed and said the same thing about cresties.

As long as nobody crosses the two species, I'm happy. I can't get into this 'hybrid' thing, not even crossing locales in leachies, so I'm not going to lose any sleep over the lack of success in this case.

Lol, I got a laugh out of that! I am not a fan of hybrids (even across locales) myself.

I am considering breeding my red male to a female goyle. I have been thinking about it, and I am waiting until the time is right.

If that red male is a crested gecko, here's hoping the time is never right.
But that's just my opinion. Have you checked out the "Hybrids" http://forums.repashy.com/showthread.php?t=1826 discussion in Ethics in Herpetoculture yet? There might be some good eye-opening threads there to interest you before you do try for hybrids. I'm not trying to start anything, just making a suggestion.
