Mood / Colour question!

Hey all,

I have noticed over the last few days that my garg has went from his "normal" light grey colour, into a kind of gunmetal grey and then today he is totally dark brown.

Is there any reason for this? His viv had just been sprayed when I noticed his colour, is this it?

Thanks,

Bryan

Re: Mood / Colour question!

Tempa and mood affect coloration. When rhacs are warm they tend to darken. In the mornings before I spray everyone is a lot lighter which is normal. However, after I spray they all fire up because 1. I just woke them up and they are slightly stressed and 2. I just raised the humidity and temps. You may notice when handling them they tend to become darker as well- it is probably in some ways helpful in the wild to blend in and avoid becoming prey.

I honestly believe Gargs are the chameleons of the Rhac world. My garg will go through 3 different color stages (usually matching whatever is behind him)

Here's a great example of my reasoning. Darwin the Garg Same garg in all the pictures, but she just "adapted" her coloring to her surroundings.

Those pictures are amazing, thank you!

As soon as I went back downstairs from posting and checked on the little fella he was back to his normal light grey.. (Much akin to yours in the grass pictures)

Re: Mood / Colour question!

Oh sorry, they're not my pictures, I was just referencing that thread. slygecko took those pictures and Darwin is Crossbill's garg. Sorry for the confusion, they're just great examples of my reasoning. I guess I should have worded it better. I don't have good pictures of my gecko in all of his color phases (I need to get some).

Did his surrounding area match the color he was at the time by any chance?
