Gekkoni – Day Expo, June 26, 2009

Overview:
On Friday, June 26, 2009 Jon Boone and I have organized an expo that allows all gecko keepers from around the world to meet, learn and exchange live animals in the beautiful climate and surroundings of San Diego California. Every registered attendee is entitled to the following:

• 4ft of free table space at the swap-meet (additional table space available for additional cost)
• Entrance to the conference and talks
• Free appetizers
• Free catered lunch
• Ice-breaker on Friday evening
• FREE passes to the Reptile SUPER SHOW on Saturday and Sunday (a $16 value)
• To hang with the best gang at the show! (Gecko hobbyists are known to STAY OUT LATE – just like the geckos we all keep.)

Gecko Talks:
Most of the talks will deviate from the typical “feed it-breed it” mentality by bringing experienced and knowledgeable gecko hobbyists/scientists who have spent time in the field with the species they present. The ability to see these geckos from a field collector’s view is quickly becoming a very useful tool for all of us for adjusting and augmenting our approaches to keeping geckos in captivity. Often times we can only imagine how or where a given species lives. Now, the guess work can be ELIMINATED.

A full list of speakers will soon be announced. If you are interested in giving a field-related presentation or have something unique to contribute, do not hesitate to contact me. Speakers will enjoy further benefits.

SPEAKERS:
MIRKO BARTS (Berlin, Germany) – Pachydactylus: “The Jewels of Namibia”.
EMMANUEL VAN HEYGEN (Mechelen, Belgium) - Lygodactylus williamsi in its natural habitat.
JAY SOMMERS (Kansas, USA) – Diurnal geckos: some perspectives outside of Phelsuma.
DANIEL SCANTLEBURY – (New York, USA) – A survey of the diversity and ecology of Hispaniolan Sphaerodactylus.
MATJAZ ROJC (Slovenia) – Captive husbandry and reproduction of Paroedura masobe.
EMMANUEL VAN HEYGEN (Mechelen, Belgium) - The non-Malagasy species of Phelsuma.
CHRISTIAN LANGNER (Germany) – South east Asian Cyrtodactylus.

Gecko Trading:
Only live geckos will be permitted for sale. No snakes, other lizards, etc., will be permitted to be sold at the Gekkoni – Day expo – as this is a gecko expo. Gecko related publications/exhibits will be allowed. Basically, if its first or last name is gecko, bring it. If you have other reptiles or products for sale, the REPTILE SUPER SHOW will be the place for that. Sounds like a blast Ramy, definitely looking into coming. Can you give us an idea on how many people are going to be allowed to sign up for the expo?

For anyone in doubt, Ramy puts on a great show, and I'm sure this will be very well organized and represented.

It's been three years since the last two gecko symposiums in the U.S. so even if you're across the country, book your plane tickets and find your way over there!

i wish these sorta things werent so friggin expensive. i guess it doesn't help that i'm all the way over on the east coast and can't even afford to make it to the herp conferences in the southeast.

ah well, maybe one day i'll make enough to actually start going to some of these.

I think the MySpace page said 100 people.

There's a good chance I'll be there, but I'm looking for a roomy or three. PM me if you're interested in "shacking up".
