Hi all,

I find that many people are afraid of reptiles, and think you are wierd when you tell them you have them. I don't really care though, because I relish being "wierd", hehehe. Who wants to be bland and the same as everyone else. When I told the folks where I worked that I had reptiles, they said "ewwww, they give me the creeps" Over time, I have brought in pictures of my beardies and geckos to work, and have been educating the people on reptiles. Now they always ask how they are doing, and if I have any new pictures of them.
Also people always assume the reptiles are my husband's and are surprised when they find out they are mine.

Allen -- try college campuses. My roommates and I used to throw some pretty big parties and there were always a few girls that wanted to see and touch everything (the reptiles that is).

I met my girlfriend in a bar after I had a drunken conversation with her about captive mortality amongst goldfish and I discovered that she knew goldfish shouldn't be kept in bowls. . . she floored me when I asked her if she knew how long goldfish could actually live in captivity and said over twenty years (which is accurate) to which I replied (in a drunken state mind you) "That's the sexiest thing I've ever heard."

Most of my friends don't understand all the critters, but whenever they need animal advice they know who to call, same for my family. It's a hobby (or a business) just like any other.

Happy herping and hunting for potential mates that don't mind it!

Christopher

I'm lucky about the whole "mates" thing; my husband and I were BOTH not allowed to keep herps growing up and so we both got into it together. He's just more of a snake person and I'm more into lizards.

My girlfriend's MOM loves herps and has all kinds of tortoises and turtles. My girlfriend has a few leopard geckos and some firebelly newts. I'm trying to convert her to a crested lover

It's not your approach Allen,it's the way you come in for a landing.I have never had a problem meeting girlfriends, but thats not really a fair comparison, since I am so much better looking than you!!

Allen, the next time a girl asks you what you do for a living tell her if she doesn't love you for who you are than you didn't want to know her name anyway. Then politely ask her to get out of your bed,get dressed and leave.

Seriously things are getting better. It used to be a lot worse. What we have to do now is watch our backs. The government is allways trying to ban what we do,and PETA is VERY dangerous!!If those people have their way we won't have to worry about prejudice becuase we won't be able to keep pets.
