Blood in stool

When I took one of my laying females out as a calm subject to adjust my lighting with for some pictures, she deposited a fresh stool for me on the table, and I was a little disturbed at what I saw. Red blood was clinging to the stool. Is this something I need to worry about? I checked her cage and didn't find any additional stool with signs of blood. What could this mean?

Re: Blood in stool

I would separate her and monitor her closely on paper towels...if I remember right this may be a symptom of entamoeba, I would check that thread.

I agree not good stuff keep her separated and monitor her fecals closely- when blood dries it will darken making it harder to see If you notice it again I would treat her and your collection.

Keep a close eye on her stools from now on Sarah. I would guess that since it's one of your laying females though, that it's a natural discharge shortly after laying. How long ago did she drop her last clutch?

June 21st. I've been feeling her for any egg development and I'm not feeling any new eggs forming. I separated her from her male a couple months ago in an effort to give her a break and hopefully jump start her cooling. It's Liebling, actually... And she's a very regular layer, she usually always lays after about 30 days, give or take one day.

She's been on paper towels and she has pretty sparse decorations since I split her from her beau. I haven't noticed any other unusual stool, she eats with great gusto, has great body weight, really active, good calcium sacs. aside from the recent blood in the stool I wouldn't think anything is at all wrong with her :\ I'll be keeping a close eye on her and her BMs to make sure she's okay... If she's got something, I wonder where on earth she could have gotten it from..? I've had her since she was a wee squirtling, and never had any problems..

That's one of the issues with Entamoeba, if that's what it could possibly be. It can seemingly lay dormant in a colony for a very long time and then all of a sudden "explode". I wouldn't rule it out, but I wouldn't get overly worked up about it just yet unless you see more symptoms. I'd be feeding the Entamoebe Fix if you have it though, just in case.

Re: Blood in stool

I would agree with Kyle's last comments. It certainly would not hurt starting her on the medication.
