Just wondering if another common name for these guys was a Ringtail Gecko? Looks very similar to one

There are only a couple of Cyrtodactylus that get as large as irianjayensis.Daniel you know as well as I that not everything in specimen libraries is labeled,or correctly labeled.I can take you to one of the most highly regarded herp collections and show you specimens of Phyllurus millii and numerous unlabeled/mislabeled specimens.I have never seen a true louisiadensis come from anywhere but Australia.Rossler described irianjayaensis in 2001.I believe all reports of louisiadensis prior to this were in fact irianjayaensis because they wouldn't key out to anything else due to their size.True louisiadensis looks nothing like irianjayaensis. The misidentification of this species has only caused problems because people look at pictures labeled incorrectly and only continue the cycle.I looked in a fairly new book today and saw an irianjayaensis labeled as louisiadensis. This book is written by someone people regard as one of the most knowledgeable gecko people around.Other people not me.
As far as common names go, ring tail goes for both. This only furthers the confusion.I have seen all of the Cyrtodactylus that are imported.I have never seen a true louisiadensis imported into the U.S.In fact I haven't seen any overseas either. |

Oh yeah, I figured they were mis-ID, but I'm not familar enough with the genus to know if there are other species similar in size and pattern to be confused with. New Cyrts are being found yearly, Jim McGuire et al. found two last year on Sulawesi.
I remember seeing an add on kingsnake a few months back for louisiadensis. The picture was not iryanjayaensis. They looked like true louisiadensis to me. Brown and white bands. Anyone know what the deal with it was?

They were true louisiadensis but the picture was pulled from the net.Remember this when you guys buy stuff on the internet, lots of people don't use photos of the actual animals.especially jobbers.
