View Full Version : Hunt mode?
Last night while I was feeding crickets, my tamest and docile gargoyle bit my finger when I was trying to get her attention.
She had bitten my before once but it was one of those warning bites, just to let me know she can do it, but last night it was a serious bite, with blood and everything.
So.. Do you think they go into "hunt mode" and bit everything that moves or was it a reaction like "get way from my food territory pink thing"?
could have been a food reaction or she could have just been startled and reacted, all of my animals are tame, and i never even hold them other then while cleaning their setups, but i have seen some get freaked out or startled and run all over the place jumping off of everything, more then likely you probably just startled her. i dont think it's really in their nature to just randomly bite.

I think Gargoyles are just a little extra feisty. Out of my cresteds, my crestedXchahoua, my gargoyle, and my leaftails, my gargoyle is the only one that has ever bitten me. I was trying to pull some shed off of her front foot and she just bit me. She was half as big as she is now so it was OK....no blood or pain but it did freak me out.

My cresteds have be known to bite me on occasion. It's almost always when I startle them. I really try to make noise before I touch them, so that they know I'm there, but they freak out at weird intervals. Typically it's just the males...I was actually wondering if it had something to do with maturing...but I really think it's just them being startled. It doesn't hurt--just scares me to death  Grumpy little things :P

usually mine bites me when i am trying to find her i stick my fingers behind the bark and WAM!!!!shes on my finger....lol...but in your case sounds like she was hungry and wanted to eat your finger cuz mine will bite and release and no blood ...but blood man that must have been a good bite...

Wow how weird to read this because a couple of days ago, I've found out that the she isn't a "she" after all =)
I found small but distinct hemipenes bulges developing. That was a surprise!
The guy from the store had a 50/50% chance of getting their sex right (I bought a couple) and he missed both animals =)
The female turned out to be a male and the male seems to be definately a female.

I don't believe they would try to eat something as large as they =)
I had one of those bites, a warning bite, they snap and release very fast and they also don't apply much force to it.
