About 40 sq ft of 3mm glass later, a cut on the wrist, lots of silicone and a few hours of work, I get these...

Here's some stats:
11" wide, 16" deep, and 24" tall
Ventilation area up top
Sliding doors up front
Comments welcome:D
those are really nice looking, how much money do you save when you go that route? also, where do you find the plastic pieces to accomodate the sliding doors?

How much I save depends on how you look at. I'll say this: I certainly built them for far less than someone would charge me to make them;). I order the sliding track through one of my local hardware stores.
Thanks for the compliments.

They look great, well done.
Who's going in there? It's a bit much to hope one or two are for me from Santa, huh? I'm planning on adding a few more tanks in the next couple of months, that size looks to be about right. I'll have to see about finding some like that.
I like the festive touch the blue tape gives, but this is really the season of red and green. :D

Not entirely sure to be honest--just thought they'd make great cages for an arboreal mid-sized gecko. I do have an idea though what I'd like to see in there. As far as some of these for a christmas present, I'm afraid they can't make it by Christmas, but maybe by New Years;). If you really want some, PM me and we can talk.
I thought the blue tape brought the whole project together. I was appealing to those crazy blue man group lovers :p .

great job on the tanks I was wondering do you ever have problems with the front glass fogging or is that not an issue since there is a slight gap where the doors meet each other

Haroldo about how long does it take you to make one? Lately I've been thinking about going that route, I have a few tanks around here that I'd like to make into one big one. They are pretty sweet looking!!

I'd imagine fogging wouldn't be an issue given my generous ventilation areas...

I dunno, probably from cut to finish 90 min. But we're talking about 24hrs of cure time to add to that. What do you mean trying to make a few tanks into one big one? I'm not sure how that'll work, but good luck to you.
Thanks for the kudos.

Savings- I'm sure with doing multiple tanks, there is more of a savings.
Other factors though are building an enclosure to a person's specific needs- specific space or animal requirement. Going through this process, there is so much to be learned as well.
Also, there is a huge satisfaction gained in building something like this yourself!
Great job! They look professional.

This is very true and much the reason why I have chosen to re-do all the enclosures for EVERY animal in my permenant collection. However, there is quite a bit of "front" money involved. My last glass order consisted of over 250 sq ft. of 1/8" glass. Local glass prices are the MAJOR determining factor in whether or not building custom is worth-while financially. If I had to pay what local suppliers charge, I couldn't afford to do this many custom vivs.
We'll see how the other few dozen turn out...Thanks for the compliments!:)

Thanks Brad. You know all you have to do is give me a call...

Thanks. I got this glass cut in my house:) . I order the glass in bulk and do everything custom myself including the design, actually cutting and assembly.

how well does that cork stand up that you have on the background? I was thinking about using some just like that I saw at office depot but didnt know if it would rot really quick I have seen the thicker stuff used a lot and it seems to

I haven't "experimented" too much with using this as a background. Considering this is the same material (and thickness) used in cork boards (obviously), I don't see it degrading too soon especially in comparison with tree fern panels, etc. This is the thicker material btw...

I just got my order of Cork from Jelink (the corkstore) and I cannot wait to set my new viv up I think its gonna be great and you inspired me to use the plain cork panels I am using the darker ones so I will see how they turn out and post some pics when I get done

Haroldo,
Wonderful looking setups. I especially like the height and the ability to maintain temperature gradiants. Very nice!

You might get you wish in a few.
Thanks. Actually I live in a community were trees are quite plentiful...I just go and find freshly broken ones...

Thanks Chicubswally.
There are a few things I don't like about the design (which will be reflected in future designs), but for the Oedura species I intend to house in there, they'll work just fine. It will be interesting to see sp. behavior as I have gotten conflicting accounts of their arboreal vs. terrestrial habits. We shall see soon enough though...Thanks again.

If I may ask, what do you dislike about the setup. Seem to be very efficient and looks great.

While it may be superficial, I don't like that both the screen frame and the sliding track aren't black. I've went to great lengths to kinda keep a theme going, but the shear cost of getting either in black isn't worth it to me at this point. Also, since these were the very first vivs I did with sliding fronts, the siliconing job on the dam and brace isn't the greatest--but this has already changed. I certainly do like them better than any cage I could buy and they definitely suit the purposes. You will notice some improvements on later models though.
