Up until now, it had been my understanding that chahoua weren't able to regenerate their tails. According to this keeper, this may not be the case...

Here's an old thread where this was discussed before:

Maybe sarasin or froghog can update us on their chahoua stubs!

I read that they regenerate but not to full length. Read it from Crested Geckos by Adam Black

Yup, they can partially regenerate their tails if the break is in the right spot. If it breaks at the tail base, it doesn't regenerate, only heals in a 'nubbin' looking thing like cresties get. If it breaks farther from the tail base, a partial regeneration is possible, not the full length, but about half a tail.

Hey that's me!! LOL Yeap, when I first got him he didn't have a tail, but it has continued to get longer. I too was very weirded out when he started to regenerate his tail.

I have a pine Island Chahoua at home who has very similar head characteristics to yours, the only thing thats differnt from yours to mine apart from the tail is the colouring, Mine is more red/rust with splashes of lichen clouring allbeit feint...

Maybe some of the rest of the guys n gals who own them can give an opinion...???

Does it drop its tail or was it an accident?? Also does it regenerate its sticky section on the end of its tail. I believe they are called setae hairs. Here is a pic:

I bought him with a dropped tail, so I don't know why he dropped it. I was told by the previous owner he dropped it as he was getting him out of the box he was shipped to him in.
As for the regenerated setae hairs, I took a look and he seems to have them, but I'm not sure. They defiantly are not as big or pronounced so...?
