I don't mind laughing at myself, get some of my best chuckles from my own stupidity. Six years ago I thought I'd figured out how to culture the best fruit flies ever seen. I went all out and experimented with various recipes for fly culture, some with better results than others. At that time, I had around 80 dart frogs and was expecting an order of 50 more to come in anytime, the permits were issued and I was ready to go to the airport to pick them up.

To get enough food for them, I worked on my secret fly mash recipe in the basement, like any mad scientist. The result was rather interesting. I posted my story on Frognet, the dart frog forum and before I knew it, I was asked for permission to post the story online.

If you need a chuckle (or belly laugh according to some people), you might want to read Cooking with Hilde (http://home.earthlink.net/~kenuy/pHUMOR4.htm)

I could not imagine walking into a swarm of fruit flies, heck just running into a couple drives me nuts. nice story by the way : )

Oh dear, it reminds me of my semester of genetics and the fruit fly lab we had to complete. However, walking into the genetics lab was a dreaded experience, one that filled your lungs with the toxic aroma of ether. It certainly gave me a new perspective on fruit flies (I never knew such a small, insignificant thing could cause so much frustration!). They did provide good food for our manitises when we were finished though!;)

So nice to see somebody else is looking at such tiny lifeforms from a new perspective. They give a new meaning to 'small, but mighty'.

Well, they're not so small and mighty after being dumped in the etherizer...
