G-Day not been here in a while.
I got this guy from Allen a year and half ago and was wanting to pair him up with a nice dark morph female. If anyone has a female please let me know. Thanks

He's a beauty. He looks huge on your arm! How old was he when you acquired him and what are you currently feeding him? What size enclosure is he in? What's his temperment like, I have heard GT's can be a bit more feisty than other locale's.

Leach' diet sprinkled on banana, mealworms
He was one year old when I got him from Allen
He's mellow and has never bitten me but does crowl at you LOL, I don't handle him much.
He has grown fast in a small tub. I plan on putting him in a larger Terrarium when I can pair him up.
thanks

I'm assuming by Allen you mean Allen that started this forum? I didn't know he had Leachi's for sale!!
My Island E growls at me too but I have never been bitten but I never handle him either unless it is absolutely necessary.
Just out curiosity, since I asked this same question to another member with Island E's, do you plan on keeping them together full time or simply for breeding purposes? I have heard that they can often be very aggressive towards one another and some times a male will not accept a female or vice versa when it comes to breeding. What are your thoughts on this?

** Island E? You mean Grande Terre's I suppose.
My experience Is with Isle of Pines and its offshore forms only as far as breeding is concerned. I had a large group from 1993 though 1998 and had no problems keeping 1. 2 together all year round. In the wild the population density Is high on many of the offshore Island forums. It would not surprise me if the GT forum was more aggressive to its mate as it Is far less common in the primary forests of Grande Terre.
To clarify I knew you had a GT, I personally own a male Island E and I was just saying my guy growls at me too some times. Another guy on here has a pair of Island E's as well and I asked him the same question about breeding that's why I tossed the Island E part in there a couple times, sorry about the confusion.
Thanks for your answers as well, in most cases I have heard the GT's can be the most feisty so I am definitely interested to hear about your experience after you breed them.

He is just lovely! I met my first GTs (both Mt Koghis and Yate) two weekends back, and they managed to put themselves on my list of geckos that I HAVE to have very quickly. They are even more impressive in person than in pictures.
Besides size and aggression have you noticed any other differences between the mainland and offshore forms?

Only that the smaller island form seems to be more sociable and In fact you often find them next to each other. The GT form I have only ever seen a few of them so not really qualified to comment.
How much do the GT cost In the UK?
Cheers
Over here in europe prices for leachianus are lower than in the us. I recently bought two month kogis dark morph babies for 275 euro/piece, other gt morphs are mostly 250 euro for hatchlings almost no adults for sale but males are mostly 300 euro. Haven't seen to many adult females for sale the last 4 years.
I just did the conversion online, 300 euro = 368 American. That is unbelievably cheap for GT's. Is there any particular reason they aren't as pricey in Belgium? Is there less of a demand for them?
If you bought two Mt. Koghis GT's for 275 thats $337 American, that is unheard of here in the states. I am assuming other island morphs must be in the high 100's or low to mid 200's right?
That's very strange to me, here in the states they are so expensive to acquire unfortunately.

lol now if i can only find a buddy over in the uk, ill be set! I think i have a friend going to hamm later this year, who is gonna pick me up some euries, but ill have to add gt's to the list!

2 Koghis Gts for $337 that amazing! Can you even one GT for $337?
Luc:could you PM me where you got your geckos from. Thnx
That's the price conversion from Euro to US. He paid the equivalent of $337 each so almost $700 for two which is still a great price.
You may have some difficulty getting them shipped over from Belgium though if he does provide you with a source :D
I bought 2 mount koghis babies for 550 euro's, it's 275 euro a piece. So it was more something like 650$. Henkeli's are mostly 200 euro. Don't know why they are cheaper in europe all rhacodactylus seem to be much cheaper here chahoua hatchlings go for 100 euro. Bought the mount koghis animals in Germany( In Hamm) not in Belgium. Strangly enough there seem to be much more leachies in the US then here were they are not that easy to find.
I also bought my adult male Island E for 150 euros from a friend, and the **** for 200 euros in Hamm. But as you said, thery are not easy to find at all, specially Grand Terre ones.
I wander if also for R. trachirynchus is the same...
In september I saw one trachyrhynchus male for sale and he was 1000 euro, someone frrom russia was selling it. But i go always to hamm show and have never seen babies or females for sale.

Yes it was yuri, i got my mount koghis from michael, he also speaking there.

Bit of a late reply but here it is!
A guy was selling his collection over here in the Uk, he had yearlings all the way up too breeding pairs of 5 years of age, he had mainland and offshore geckos.
He sold me a Mt koghis bought from phillipe to me, 2 years old, for £550.
he also had a pair of Mt.koghis 5 years old (ish) for sale for £1500, but lowered it to £995 cause no one showed interest, but i got there to late! :(.
(hexem now owns them beautys).
Its incredibly cheap here in the uk for them, but they are not often for sale as adults/sexed/pairs.
I think the price reflects honesty, most people with these in uk (like shops etc) arent honest, or simply dont know where they are from, so become "unknown".
Also paid £220 for a isle E henkeli, at 2 weeks of age.

I understand..... you got him back in 04'. Its hard, This thing has turned into a business, opposed to what it was before.
I dont believe that you would easily locate an animal with the characteristics of your male if you attempted to today, (well, I know of ONE sure supplier) You may spend $750-$1000 on a baby that "should" look like him, from a "business" with little to no human contact.
Things are so mixed up now That you can find a supposed "pure" GT that looks like an N.Ami on steroids! People will still stand by it only because they purchased it or are offering it for purchase... Every once in a while, A breeder will sell these animals as locale specific and then(after payment is collected of course) 1 year later they change their tune after seeing the animal, now they are not sure. When it was for sale they were VERY sure ;)
Maybe it is personal error on the breeders part, Maybe does not keep books like they should, Whatever it may be.... I dont want to be too bold and use the word lie.
I digress. What A beautiful male GT! I wish I could have purchased him. I understand why you stopped your search. :)

philippe was trying to get me a female but at the time could only locate males. Him and Alan are the only ones I would trust on local specific geckos. Not really sure what they sell for today with most breeders being hit hard by the bad economy? Alan at the time was selling GT for 400. Alan gifted me mine, thanks mate.

Geoff I just figured out that you're Australian! I've always thought the "WA" for your location was Washington state here in the US, which has the same abbreviation as Western Australia! No wonder you've been to New Caledonia before! It's not all that far. Another mystery unraveled!

I thought it was Washington too! I read your thread about swimming with crocodiles, and I thought you were just there on a trip. Makes more sense now!
