I have been feeding CGD with crickets for a while, but I wanted to get some variety in my geckos diet. I cut up some bananas, apple, pear, and mango and mixed it with some plain no fat yogurt and some CGD. I froze about 2 months worth. Im wondering if I should mix some more CGD with it when I feed. They seemed to love it and eat it almost all up. Would it be better to mix some more CGD with it when I feed.

It would be better to just feed all CGD. When you mix your own diets you always run the risk of missing out on essential nutrients. Unlike people most other animals do not need/ want variety in their diet. They are best off on a nutritionally complete diet (like the CGD). For that matter, a lot of people would be better off with a daily ration of people chow.

I agree with gen, you could always give it to them as a treat now and then ya know. But with the CGD its got everything they need, you couldn't ask for a better food ya know. I personally like to feed the gargoyle diet to my rhacs because of the higher protein in it. Its not as sweet but once I gave it to them cold turkey after a couple feedings they all ate it just the same if not better the CGD. Dont get me wrong their your animals and you take care of them the way you see fit, just trying to show you that you don't have to do that, and it would probably be easier just to stick with the diet.

I will stopping feeding it then. Has anyone mixed yogurt with CGD to get a better consistency. My CGD seems to dry out fast.

Add more water if it is drying out too fast. Adding anything other than water dilutes the nutrient value of the diet.

I leave my food in usually for 48 hours unless it is all gone, so I have to make it pretty watery so it does not dry out to quick. My guys will work on it for the whole time its in there too

i ad plain fat free yogurt to my cgd mix along with water. i find that if i just add more water the cgd settles to the bottom of the mix and the geckos end up lapping the watered down portion off the top and the settled portion is too thick and dry for them to really eat. i add just a little yogurt in place of some of the water and the consistency is smooth and the same throughout the mix. every once in a while i make a gecko smoothie and add fresh fruits to the mix and they do seem to love it but i don't feed that every time.

I gave them all CGD none of them really touched it, I added more water than usual, but the food in the 2 juvies cage dried out rock hard. I'll try more water tonight.

Are you accurately mixing it per the label, and mixing it together well??
+/- just a little bit of water makes a BIG difference...
When you've initially finished mixing it together, it should be quite thin and runny, but after it sits for 15mins of so (the powder absorbs the moisture), it will become a good consistency (a thin paste)...
Give it an extra stir and put it in the cage... by morning, it will have thickened more (due to evaporation), but still be a paste (all be it thicker)...
