Last month I purchased an Animal Plastics rack system routed for 4" Flexwatt. The rack is designed to have the heat tape snaked from shelf to shelf and I have installed the Flexwatt accordingly. I have recently been informed that Flexwatt was not intended to be snaked through a rack since one shelf will have the tape facing up and the next shelf will have the tape facing down. I know that Boaphile racks have heat tape pre-installed in a similar manner.

Is this safe? Has anyone ever had any problems with heat tape installed this way?

flexwatt is basicly the same on both sides. there isnt a drastic difference between "top" and a "bottom" since it emmits heat from both sides. I have quite a few racks [that we wired and heated ourselves], and as far as i know, snaking the heat tape back and forth is the only way to do it, unless you want to cut individual strips, and wire them individually, which in my opinion, is probably less safe, and might give you inconsistant heat off of different strips. as long as the plastic casing isnt torn, damaged or folded, its safe.
